First Interstate is currently developing Steelyard Commons, a historic multi-tenant shopping center comprised of approximately 910,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and service uses on a portion of a former steel plant in Cleveland, Ohio. Steelyard Commons is scheduled to open in the spring of 2007 and will contain Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, Marshall's, Old Navy, Staples, and more than 30 additional retailers and restaurants. Previously completed developments include Legacy Village (completed in the fall of 2003) and Avon Commons (completed in 2001). Legacy Village is a $128 million, 610,000 square foot mixed-use project and is Cleveland, Ohio's first "life-style" center. Legacy Village's major tenants include Ohio's first Crate & Barrel along with Dick's Sporting Goods, The Cheesecake Factory and Giant Eagle. Avon Commons, an approximately $60 million, 765,000 square foot "power center," was developed on more than 100 acres of which 30 acres were set aside as green space. Avon Commons' major tenants include Costco, Target, Home Depot, Kohl's, Heinen's, Marshall's, and Linens-N-Things. Prior to founding First Interstate, Mitchell practiced real estate law at the Kahn Kleinman law firm in Cleveland, Ohio. Mitchell received his B.A. and his J.D.
